OTOKOYAMA SAKE PARK
“Otoyama” is the official sake of the Edo shogunate that has been going on since the Edo period, and was so popular that it was depicted in Kabuki, Joruri, and ukiyo-e. During the Edo period, Yamamoto Sanemon, who was brewing sake under the name of a cotton shop in Itami, Kansai, inherited and continued to make sake created after Otoyama Hachimangu Shrine, and its predecessor, Yamazaki Sake Brewery, was founded in Hokkaido in 1887.
In 1968, with the desire to make better sake, he inherited the orthodox “Otoyama” from the Yamamoto family, the main family of “Cotton Shop”. Since then, we have been brewing sake that takes advantage of Hokkaido’s natural blessings, and has passed down the taste of famous sake to the present day.
I want many people to taste the Otokoyama that I have painstakingly built. His thoughts were not limited to Japan, and in 1977, he exhibited “Otoyama Junmai Daiginjo” for the first time in Monde Selection. In 1984, after winning the world’s first gold medal for Japan sake, it began full-scale export to the United States.
Currently, it is exported to more than 20 countries and is loved as a local sake in Hokkaido in various places. In addition, the “Otoyama Sake Brewing Museum” is visited by many tourists from overseas every year, and is popular as a tourist facility in Asahikawa, Hokkaido.
The Otoyama Sake Brewing Archive conveys the 350-year history of Otoyama and the sake brewing culture, which is one of Japan’s traditional industries. Valuable materials, documents, and sake vessels from the Edo period are on display, and you can also see some of the sake brewing during the brewing season.
Every February, during the sake brewing season during the cold season, the brewery is also open.Recommended points
At the tasting and shop corner on the first floor, you can sample Otoyama’s Japan sake for free (some for a fee). There are many products that are only sold here, such as “seasonal limited” and “material museum only”, so if you are on the left, please try them. We also sell Otoyama goods such as sake vessels, pouches, and T-shirts.

Japanese sake corner hit Ue countryside
During the Edo period, ordinary people enjoyed sake bought at liquor stores to boost the economy on the spot. Nowadays, standing and drinking at a liquor store is generally called “kakuchi”. While inheriting the culture of kakuchi, the store has set up a corner area as a space to propose new ways to enjoy Japanese sake. For drinks, the owner prepares carefully selected alcoholic beverages from all over the country, including Hokkaido. Japan sake offers not only brands, but also ways to enjoy drinking it, such as steamed sake, frozen sake, and wooden glasses. The dishes are mainly prepared with dishes made with Hokkaido ingredients. Enjoy a better marriage with alcohol.

(1) Please proceed to the “corner area” from the aisle at the back of the sales area.
(2) Please choose Japan sake from the showcase and bring it to your seat. The Japan sake in the showcase is color-coded ribbons and mizuhiki, and the price is different depending on the color. There are also three types of sake tasting sets for each season, so please try them if you are in doubt.
(3) Please choose your dish from the menu and ask the staff. We recommend dishes that go well with alcohol, so please feel free to ask us if you are in doubt.
(4) Please ask the staff when you leave. Payment can be made in cash, credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, DISCOVER, UnionPay), PayPay, and Alipay.Under the slogan “Proposal for a new way to enjoy Japanese sake”, “Washukaku Uedaya” opened in the summer of 2019. There are various theories about the origin of the horn strike, but it is said that “sake was drunk directly from the square shape of the horn of the rise”. Even if you are not familiar with alcohol, if you tell them your taste preferences, such as “sweet”, “spicy”, or “fruity”, they will tell you the perfect brand. They will also explain the brewery’s commitment and history, so choosing a drink will be fun. Don’t miss the owner’s special Japanese snacks.
