Soba restaurant beside the master
Founded in Meiji 43, it is a soba restaurant with one of the best history in Asahikawa. It seems that many people visit in search of the famous "Torimotsu soba", which is said to be only available here.
Located right near Asahikawa Station, just one street from the shopping park street, “Meijin Side” is a long-established soba restaurant with a very long history, which was founded in 1910 (Meiji 43).
Currently, the fifth-generation owner continues to preserve the traditional taste.
The most famous thing here is “Torimotsu soba”.
Fresh chicken liver, gizzards, hearts, and kumquat (string) are gently simmered in a sweet and spicy broth and placed on top of the soba noodles.
The giblets are carefully pre-processed, and there is no odor, and the texture and umami of each part are reputed to harmonize perfectly with soba noodles and broth.
It is a remnant of the old days when whole chicken was purchased and not only meat and bones but also internal organs were used.
I heard that Ayako Miura, a writer known for her novel “Freezing Point”, was also a frequent visitor during her lifetime. It is a cup that has been loved by locals and tourists for a long time, and you can feel the history of Asahikawa.
