11:00 Arashiyama Observatory (Hokuho Wild Grass Garden)
Scenic spots overlooking the Daisetsuzan Mountains
It is located near the entrance of the Ishikari and Osarape rivers, and is located at the foot of Arashiyama, where the Ainu revered it as a sacred place and has a long history and culture.
Approximately 600 species of plants grow on an area of 12.25 hectares, making it one of the largest wild plants in Japan. The forest, which is dominated by broad-leaved trees, conveys its appearance before development to the present, and is a very rare place in the suburbs of the city. When you climb up to the observation deck, you will find a spectacular view point where you can overlook the “river town” Asahikawa. Mt. Kinbun, which is said to be the ancestor of Kamikawa development and the first commissioner of the Hokkaido Government, Lord Michitoshi Iwamura, conducted a national viewing is also adjacent.

An observation deck overlooking Asahikawa
Recommended by local guides!
Recommended by local guides! It is located about 5 kilometers west of the center of Asahikawa City, and is 253 meters above sea level. It got this name because of its resemblance to Arashiyama in Kyoto. The greatest attraction of Arashiyama lies in its natural richness. The park’s “Hokuho Wild Grass Garden” is a valuable place where primeval forests remain even though it is located near the city, and welcomes many visitors from all over the country. On the other hand, it is being developed as a park, and hiking trails and the Arashiyama Park Center have been set up so that people of all ages can easily walk around. From the observation deck at the top, you can overlook the entire city of Asahikawa, and it is also known as a spot for night views and fireworks. In the park’s Ainu Cultural Forest and Traditional Kotan, three traditional Ainu bamboo thatched houses (urachise) from the Kamikawa region have been restored and exhibited outdoors, and there is also an exhibition on the use of Ainu plants in the Arashiyama Park Center.

Kakoto Kawamura (Kaneto) was a person who was active as a railway surveyor from the Meiji period to the early Taisho and Showa periods. He took the lead in surveying railway facilities such as the Soya Main Line and the Nemuro Main Line, but in his later years, he suffered from eye disease and after resigning from public office, he invested all his personal wealth to establish a memorial hall to pass on Ainu culture to future generations in 1916. You can experience Ainu culture through a variety of experiences, including the performance and production of the traditional Ainu musical instrument “mukkuru”, traditional cuisine, Ainu embroidery, and traditional dance (reservations are required).

13:30 Ramen and Tenkin
A cup of the royal road representing Asahikawa ramen
Since its establishment in 1952, this famous restaurant has maintained the tradition of Asahikawa ramen while also gaining a new generation of fans. The deep, rich soup based on tonkotsu is truly the pride of Tenkin. The soup looks a little cloudy because lard is added to create an oil film on the surface to prevent the heat of the soup from escaping. Asahikawa’s unique ingenuity, where freezing temperatures are commonplace, was born from a warm feeling for customers. Of course, the noodles that go well with their proud soup and make you unable to stop moving your chopsticks are also a unique charm of Tenkin. The medium-thick curly noodles, which are easy to get involved in the soup and have a low water content, assert their outstanding individuality as if competing for the leading role with the carefully selected soup. In addition, the presence of ingredients that go beyond the realm of “supporting roles” cannot be overlooked. Authentic char siu with a firm and chewy texture. Fresh and fragrant green onions. Menma has an addictive crunchy texture. The ingredients in the ramen are all high-quality ingredients that have been carefully examined.
You can feel the harmony of the soup× noodles× ingredients, and the spirit of the creator who delivers each dish with all his heart.Recommended by local guides!
Among the high-level Asahikawa ramen in general, it is a famous restaurant that has gained enthusiastic support from local ramen fans while adhering to the basic style that can be said to be the classic road. Although it has a simple composition, it has an overwhelming presence because it has a solid framework. We recommend “shoyu” or “shoyu vegetables”! It’s a cup that I want you to stir with white rice.
