The Asahikawa Tokiwa Roundabout is a roundabout located in the center of the city center, and is a historic urban facility that was completed in 1936. In the central square, a symbol tower about 35 meters high and 6 meters wide rises, and the silver object at the top abstractly expresses the nature of Asahikawa, such as ice, snow, and icicles. Six roads radiate from the roundabout, connecting the city’s core areas such as Asahi Bridge and Heiwa-dori Shopping Park. The surrounding area is close to Joban Park and art museums, creating a landscape where greenery and art harmonize.

Since 2000, the “Asahikawa Street Light Illumination” has been lit up radially from the symbol tower in the circumferential direction in winter, and the street trees and towers from Midoribashi Street to Asahibashi Bridge are gorgeously lit up. It adds a warm glow to snowy nights and is an impressive winter tradition for walkers and train windows. It is a city landmark that encapsulates the uniqueness of Asahikawa by dynamizing it as a traffic node during the day and an art-like scene from evening to night.
