Kawamura Kako Toainu Memorial Hall - 北海道まんなか観光ナビ

For the purpose of protecting and transmitting Ainu culture, it was established in 1916 by Kamikawa Ainu chief Kawamura Itakiroma. It is a historic facility that started with a private museum. The second director, Kakoto Kawamura, the eighth generation of the Kawamura family, was an excellent railway surveyor who was active from the Meiji period to the Showa era. Therefore, in addition to the daily utensils used by the Ainu people, valuable materials such as surveying equipment are also on display in the museum. You can experience Ainu culture through a variety of experiences, including the performance and production of the traditional Ainu musical instrument “mukkuru”, traditional cuisine, Ainu embroidery, and traditional dance (reservations are required).
